My name is Danya and this blog is all about my culinary adventures. I grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, and moved to British Columbia when I was a teenager. When I was younger, my favourite thing to do was watch my mom and my grandma cook. I remember coming home from school every day and watching Rachel Ray on the TV. I remember always wanting to help in the kitchen. I remember the moment I realized cooking is my passion. And here I am, years later, ditching the geography degree I told myself I wanted and, instead, going to culinary school, finally. My amazing (and super supportive) boyfriend, Adam, packed up with me and we moved to Calgary, Alberta so I could pursue my culinary dreams.
If you’re wondering about the name of this blog, well… I LOVE CILANTRO! Okay, all jokes aside, the name actually stems from the fact that cilantro really is my favourite herb, but it also represents freshness, flavour, and growth. These are also the adjectives you could use to describe my style of cooking: “growth” because my culinary skills are growing even more right now (thanks culinary school!); “love” because I love cooking, food, and flavour, but also because I’ll occasionally be blogging about things I love, like gardening, my cats, and travel.
The recipes in my blog will often be derived from recipes that inspire me; there will also be recipes I created, like my favourite tomato sauce – (I came up with it when I was about 11). I will also post a few recipes I’ve tried at school, if I feel like you really need to try them (a lot of the things we cook at school are AMAZING). I may also share a few of my favourite traditional Jamaican recipes.
Thanks for stopping by, I really hope you enjoy my blog! 🙂
